Leeds Tenants Federation brings summertime fun to young people
Young people on nine Leeds housing estates will enjoy a huge range of fun activities this summer thanks to £1500 in grants from Leeds Tenants Federation.
Thanks to the grants from Leeds Tenants Federation, young people will have the chance to have a go at abseiling, climbing, break dancing and face painting, and the money will also fund a number of fun days and sports events across the city.
Leeds Tenants Federation received applications totalling over £5000 from 18 groups for the £1500 available in extra grants.
“Young people have got a huge amount to give to their communities and we are proud to be able to help them get involved and feel valued,” said Michael Hall, chair of Leeds Tenants Federation.
“Tenants and residents groups are working hard to involve young people and give them a voice in what happens in their communities,” Michael added.
“Leeds Tenants Federation is very pleased to be able to help improve the involvement of young people in the tenants movement through these grants and we look forward to a summer of fun for our young people .”
Grants were awarded to the following tenants and residents groups for youth activities and projects involving young people:
Otley North West Tenants & Residents Association were awarded £300 to run two days of guided activities for young people on Otley Chevin, including abseiling, climbing, and mountain biking as well as pond clearing with the help of Forest Rangers.
Haslewood Close and Rigton Tenants and Residents Associations in Ebor Gardens were awarded £200 for a summer trip to the coast for young people who have shown big improvements in behaviour through attending local classes.
Potternewton tenants and residents group got £200 for a community event with a community safety theme where young people will learn break dancing and circus skills and put their artistic ideas into practice with some guided-graffiti.
Osmondthorpe tenants and residents group received £150 to run a summer fun day on the theme of the TV show “Gladiators”.
Deepdale tenants and residents association in Boston Spa got £150 to run a sports day for young people on the green in the centre of their estate.
Moor Grange Action Group in West Park were given £150 to hold an event in the school holidays to bring children and elderly people together in a fun way.
Manor Farm Community Association in Middleton received £100 for an Open Day to involve young people in the group.
Thorpe tenants and households association were given £100 to put on a Gala in the local junior school field, with face painting and a balloon race planned.
Rothwell NW tenants and residents association received £100 because they wanted to buy a badge making machine and donate it the local Rothwell and District Gateway Club who work with young people with special needs.
